I illustrated a series of scenes I observed at Bemelman's Bar inside the legendary Carlyle Hotel. From waiters swiftly gliding around the space to Bemelman mural observationists and old world cocktails artfully being crafted. The illustration celebrates the magical essence of the space for the hotel's promotional use. Bemelman's is one of my favorite locations in New York and has been the space of special moments which I was able to capture through the intricate ink illustrated sequence keeping in tone with the gold wall color idealized by Bemelmans. Bemelman's Bar was established in 1947 and housed within The Carlyle Hotel on Manhattan's Upper East Side featuring iconic murals painted by Ludwig Bemelmans the illustrator of the Madeline book series.
